How to Handle it When a Trainee Complains


As senior doctors we are often unprepared for the situation where a trainee comes to us to discuss a concern or complaint about another clinician.

Its a situation that is quite easy to get wrong with potential disastrous consequences.  Often there are policies and processes that you are not fully aware of.

Key Advice for this situation:

  • Listen and validate concerns
  • Indicate that you want to seek confidential advice on the trainees options
  • Make a time to discuss further
